Using rubber stamps as a craft tool could be a very exciting and a very relaxing craft activity. However, the craft of making your own rubber stamps could be just as exciting and relaxing as well. When creating rubber stamps you can create almost any kind of design. You can even make a rubber stamp that you can use depending on the craft or theme that you are planning to create or use it for.

Creating rubber stamps is a fairly easy activity. At home, you can start making rubber stamps from scratch. When rubber material is unavailable at home you may start by using rubber bands. Materials include a large rubber band, pencil, tracing paper, craft knife, a glue, and a scrap board or a wooden block which will be used for backing. You will also need your design.

Start by cutting the rubber band so that you can lay it out flat and then continue by taping each end. Remember not to stretch the rubber band when you tape it.

Start tracing your design on the tracing paper. Through the use of a pencil, trace out the outline of your type for the rubber stamp. Once you have finished, tape the design you want over the rubber band. Cut out the design by using your craft knife. Cut out the design like you are using a pair of scissors where in you will cut out or remove the basic shape or outline from the background of the paper.

Once you have cut the piece of rubber, glue it onto the scrap of cardboard or small wooden block, This will serve as the mount and the handle of your rubber stamp.

You can try it by pressing it onto a ink pad and apply it in your preferred medium. You can try other designs by using the same method of carving.
